Department of Horticulture

Department of Horticulture was founded in October 1994. Students’ admission in MSc and PhD programs has been started from 2006 and 2012 respectively. Horticultural Science is a set of science and technology in the fields of physiology, postharvest physiology, breeding of fruit trees, vegetables, ornamental plants and medicinal plants in a traditional and biotechnological methods, using modern methods of pomology, vegetable, planting and cultivation of medicinal plants in order to increase production and productivity

MSc courses presented in this department are in the following fields:

  1. Physiology and Breeding of Fruit Trees
  2. Physiology and Breeding of vegetables
  3. Physiology and breeding of medicinal, spices and aromatic plants
  4. Physiology and breeding of flower and ornamental plant
  5. Physiology and postharvest technology
  6. Biotechnology and molecular genetics of horticultural plants

PhD courses presented in this department are as follows:

  1. Physiology and Breeding of Fruit Trees
  2. Physiology and breeding of flower and ornamental plant

Graduates in this field can work as an administrator or executor at a state and private agricultural production units. They can also work as an expert in various fields in administrative units such as Agricultural organization, Organization of green spaces and parks. Being a lecturer in agricultural training centers and cooperation in research in agricultural research centers can also be regarded as job opportunities for graduates of this field.
